We have a bit of a weird set-up here, because we're so small. As such, we take on client work as necessary and then work on stuff like this whenever we get the chance. (We're never going to be wealthy with this approach, but it's fun.)
@shelkie built this using Meteor, which has allowed us to prototype really quickly. That said, we don't think it will hold up that well if the site ever gets significant traffic. For now, though, it allowed a really easy way to prototype, with the notion of rebuilding from the ground up if performance becomes an issue.
The scroll bar issue just popped up, and @shelkie noted that it will be gone shortly.
