    Today let's talk hard drives.

Going to install Win8 on my laptop and then install Maschine 2.0 (upgrade from 1.8) and Komplete 9 (Upgrade from Elements).

I've got a 256GB SSD which will end up being too small spacewise if I try to install everything on there.

    So.... do I either ...

Get a 500GB/1TB SSD and install all on there

    or

Keep the 256 in there and get an external drive and install all the libraries (most of the bulk of Komplete) onto it?

I've heard the latter will make for better performance. Will it improve my already good SSD performance?

Downside of an external is that I have to plug it in when wanting to make music or remember to take it with me! It's not handy for making tunes on lap and having an external drive hanging down beside me.

Could get one of those Kingston HyperX flash drives I guess. But at that price I'd be as well getting an internal.

I initially thought that I'd be able to install ALL of Komplete (including the Applications) onto an external but it's not recommended - ANYONE TRIED IT?
This would be great to be able to do as you could take all your samples, instruments etc and work on different computers and just point the base Maschine / Ableton Live programs towards your VST's and Libraries and have everything just plugin and work.

    Anyone got any thoughts?
