    I think the writers do an OK job considering its a big TV show.

    They can't just copy the comics 100% because obsessive TV fans (who bring them their main rating figures) are weird and invest emotionally into characters. So they have to keep people alive for longer etc to keep the super fans happy. i.e Shane being in it much longer than he should have, Rick having two hands, Carls eye issue etc. (This is why I like Boardwalk Empire, no happy happy joy joy bullshit)

    They also play the long ball game and drag things out which is fucking annoying because seasons are slow. But if they threw it all into fast the writing would get worse when they ran out of things to spin from the comics. You would see generic shit getting thrown in more like love affairs, personal issues etc blah blah...

    At the end of the day it's still more entertaining than 95% of the other shit on TV.
