I use underscores because of the following:
*It's the same code base that went into twentyten, twentyeleven, and twentytwelve
*It's developed by dudes who work at automattic, so it's basically the most trusted code-base you can get.
*I'm a control freak, and it gives me a lot of control.
*It's really easy to generate a new instances of the theme that is customized to your project's name by going to underscores.me.
*It's under active development so you can be sure you're getting a package of WordPress best-practices.
*And probably most important, I'm just more familiar with it than any other theme out there.
