Skeuomorph is compounded from the Greek: skéuos, σκεῦος (container or tool), and morphḗ, μορφή (shape). The term has been applied to material objects since 1890

Minimalism is a term referring to styles of visual art and music displaying pared-down design elements. As a specific movement in the arts it is identified with developments in post–World War II Western Art, most strongly with American visual arts in the 1960s and early 1970s. The term minimalism is also used to describe a trend in design and architecture wherein the subject is reduced to its necessary elements.

    • its awful - thats what it isfadein11
    • minimilist art and music need not have any 'design' elements. Minimilism was a movement not a trendfadein11
    • equating minimilism with flat design is wrong.fadein11
    • equating minimilist architecture or design with the artistic movement or 'minimalist lifestyle' is wrong.kingsteven
    • but you're right it doesn't make it the opposite of skumorphic, which is effectively what flat-design is a reaction to.kingsteven
    • 'anti-skumorphic'. my problem is that many sites designed with minimalist values would be lumped in to the 'flat' category.kingsteven
    • my job is really boring ATM.kingsteven
