    Letterpress...you can go the Cranky Pressmen (or whoever may be closest to you) route.

    Burning...not having done this, these are just ideas which come to mind...def experiment on cheap paper first. Potentially consider loosely clamping one end of a stack at a time. If it's too tight it could be a pill to light, but too loose may allow the flames to get deeper into the sheets than you'd prefer. The clamp positioning may help control how deep the char will go.

    Also consider allowing some moisture to wick up into the edges of the paper...not too much out of fear it'll mess with your ink and letterpress impressions, but moisture may help the paper smolder instead of burn.

    Last thought...use a gas grill. It could allow you to control the height of the paper in relation to the flame, and you could also opt to play with the height/intensity of the flame. This route would also allow you to cook hot dogs or grilled veggies to enjoy as you experiment with the effect.
