^ Probably because simply going on the run and escaping prosecution wasn't the intended conclusion to this. They planted their home made incendiary devices, and then they hung around, causing highly disruptive activities, whilst armed with guns and hand grenades, shot a cop, and stole two cars.
They weren't looking to get away, they were looking to go down fighting, for maximum disruption.
