Well, I've got a 35mm Summicron-M f2.0, and I can tell you that is a great lens. Great, great lens.

Supposedly the R lenses had some compromises built into them to accomodate the mirror on the R SLRs, and aren't quite as wonderful. So, I would just stick with the Canon 50mm, if I were you.

But, you know, SLRs with autofocus are not really the best tools for street photography. Because the cameras are bigger, and stick out more, and the autofocus and the autowind make noise.

So, ideally, you'd get an M body with 35mm and 50mm Summicrons for a real street kit, a la Cartier-Bresson and the other masters of the genre.

    • True about the M body, but I haven't got a house to mortgage. ;)Continuity
    • Also note that I'd be popping this baby on a DSLR, not a film SLR. :)Continuity
    • Used Leica Ms have never been cheaper, really.
