Not that fond of nicknames.
For one I think it's cozy knowing each others real name. Less anonymous. Less bitching online, perhaps?
Two: nicknames doesn't sits well at rl meetups.
You'll go for a drink at some neat place, you sit down and tell your beloved significant other:
"This is ButtBlazter52x. We met online. Designforum. He's into photography".So. Voila. My name. Peter.
