I still haven't heard of anyone who have managed to sell an already produced story to a magazine so don't get disappointed if they turn it down. That being said, if it's well put together they might consider you for other assignments in the future.
Make sure your website is easy to navigate and that the Photo Editor can get an understanding for your work and experience within 30 sec. Put yourself in the role of the PE who receives 100 emails a day from photog, how can you make it as easy as possible for them to review your work?
