I also started watching Battlestar Galactica after reading this online:
"I thought that this would be another slightly corny, tired science fiction thriller TV series. I started watching because it was a recommendation from Netflix on the basis of Doctor Who and Firefly.
What I got was an intense political, anthropological, moralistic, religious analysis of humanity. The science fiction is present, but never obtrusive. The acting is so well done that I don’t think of these actors as existing independently of the program. The graphics are perfect in the crisp sense of adding to the show so subtly that it takes several episodes to realize how remarkable they actually are. In sum, this is a tastefully designed show with incredibly poignant writing that many people of diverse backgrounds could appreciate equally."
