    For i_monk:
Some plot hole info (from a Star Trek board, so it must be true)
Nero makes it to the Hobus star and wants revenge on Spock and the Federation for not saving Romulus. Nero is sucked in a singularity. Nero comes out to see a Federation ship and attacks it. Once he almost destroys the ship he learns he went back in time. Once he learns of this he already changed the time line forever.

Kirk Sr. cripples the Narada ship. The Klingons capture the Narada and the crew is imprisoned for 25 years. When they make their escape they destroy 47 Klingon ships this is stated on screen. At this point he must capture prime Spock and get the Red Matter. He cannot save Romulus or get revenge without this important step.

After he gets the Red Matter he wishes to destroy Federation planets for revenge. This will allow him to return to Romulus as a hero and also save it from the Hobus star. This was the plan.

    • Killing Chris Pine doesn't save Romulus 40 years later, and if he knows he can't ever get back or whatever, the revenge is pointless.i_monk
    • pointless.i_monk
    • Er, not Chris Pine, the dude who played his father on that first ship.i_monk
    • Revenge is always pointless. It never fixes the problem. It's an emotional response.ETM
    • Star Trek arguments = pointlessAl_dizzle
    • His goal was to destroy every federation planet he can for revenge. Even if he can't get back he can save romulus by stopping Spock.CyBrainX
