If you think atheism is a religion, or a belief system, then let me as you a question:
Do you believe in Big Foot (or anything mythical)?
If you don't, then you MUST prescribe to THE belief system that doesn't believe in Sasquatches, because those people over there think they're real as fuck and would bet their lives on it. Welcome to atheism.
If you say yes, you look insane, because Big Foot obviously isn't real.
