Perhaps there needs to be a site where searching through 'styles' and 'content' of various illustrators is as easy as searching through a stock site. Make the process more 'impulse' / 'easy' to compete with but still ensuring that the pricing is clearly outlined based on usage and value and complexity.
jus playing devils advocate. I am an illustrator as well, and go on a 'quote required' basis, so no one really knows how much something will cost until they've spent a half hour explaining it. From a customer standpoint that is annoying as shit, and I even hate calling print places, cd manufacturers, etc, if they dont have their pricing clearly upfront, it just a pain in my ass and usually by the time ive finally gotten a quote via email or some sales-person voicemail, i have found someone else to go with who lists some facet of their pricing on their site.
working with an illustrator, i think potential clients have this impression that its going to be crazy expensive, simply by default.
