A good understanding of probability wouldn't lead anyone liken the odds of dying in a plane crash to the odds of winning the lottery. Its a very simplistic comparison that doesn't stand up to even casual scrutiny. The mechanisms of the two processes are so dissimilar that its like comparing a bacteria to an emotion.
