Using this idiot of a woman as an example of why, as you allege, the whole welfare/foodstamp system should be scrapped is bull. For every one of her there are thousands of families who, whether it be a bad economic decision (including trying to start one of those small businesses the Repubs claim to love so much), happenstance (an injury or calamity), need assistance in order to put food on the table and pay the bills.
Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
Wouldn't it be better to hone the processes used to determine eligibility. Instead of having applicants volunteer info when their income changes, make it easier and more frequent, to report those changes. Also make it clear that the difference of 10 or 20 dollars is not going to drop you off the deep end and bring you from receiving, say, $200 of assistance to nothing.
And maybe with large increases, such as this lottery, give them 6 weeks to report it. And if it's not reported in that time, they have to pay back the support given after that point.

    • i agree, but i did not mention scrapping the program. I mentioned that the program as it is currently implemented creates dependency to a party that favors it.whhipped
