A short time ago, I spied out of the window, a sheriff's car pulling into our driveway. Two cops got out and made quite quickly for the front door, and knocked on it with some vigor...
It turned out that someone with phone registered to our address had placed a 911 call and hung up. It might have been an old room-mate, or a previous occupant, either way, that number had shown up on the Police computer, and of course they'd come steaming round, and with no small amount of acute observation of my family and I, were happy after a few minutes that nothing untoward was going on; there wasn't an abused child desperately trying to call for help or anything like that. Good on them for being suspicious, I was quite impressed at how hard they were to convince that everything was ok.
Thing is, as soon as they'd pulled into the driveway and jumped out, I immediately thought "shit - I've written something on the internet they didn't like".
Guess I'm just a few years ahead of the curve.
