Had some problems with 1and1.co.ukin the past, plus the user control panel was awful when I last had to use it for a client, admitedly a couple of years back.
Found Namesco quite good though their customer service was quite poor last time I had to get in touch with them, they are also quite pricey. I'm using them for personal stuff but looking to move.
Cheapest option we found was hosting with hostgator in the US. They do have UK based servers as an option now as well.
