    I suppose something like the Panton chair would have had a design patent that is now expired. So there's legally no problem with making a replica as long as you don't claim it's an original.

    I believe the 'official' Knoll chairs you get now are plastic rather than fibreglass so they're quite dissimilar to the originals. Whereas you can get 'unofficial' knockoffs that are had from fireglass and apparently use the original moulds.
