99% of this is psychological intimidation. They want you to think you could go to jail for downloading something, they want you to be afraid of sharing stuff online. You should look into the actual related laws and understand your rights because a back room deal between ISPs and copyright nazis does not change the laws nor does it give them all ability to skip over a proper legal process.
If they want to shut your service down leave them, there are other providers, and what if you went to another provider in on this shady deal? Will they share your previous information like a criminal record? Whether you know it or not you have a right to privacy, these companies don't want to mention that fact though.
