    @ Utopian. without disagreeing with you, it would be interesting to work out whether local working standards have improved since American companies have employed them.

    I think that might be a fairer way of judging this situation. Workers in Asian countries have typically had shocking conditions for decades if not centuries.

    The 'spate of suicides' in 2010 was actually a low number when looking at the amount of people employed by Foxconn. It seems there were 14 deaths from 18 suicide attempts in Shenzen from between 300,000 to 450,000 people. America's suicide death rate in 2008 was 11.1 per 100,000 people – seemingly substantially higher.

    I'm not an Apologiser, just attempting the balance the reporting which seems to be extremely biased either way, depending on the writer's stance.
