I don't know much about Sao Paulo, but it is a bit of a business centre. If you have time (and a car) maybe you want to visit some of the nearest cities.
If you haven't visited Brazil ever before, try to make it to Copacabana. I would recommend travelling even further north but you will run out of time.
Things to try there - fruits. Go to any street fair and pick at least 5 that you never heard of and give them a try.
- Don't drink beer, drink caipirinha! and try mate leao, kind of an ugly fizzy drink (very Brazilian thing I'd say).
Sorry for the non-substantial recommendations, but you surely be fine asking your fiancee. I have family working in Sao Paulo but I doubt a 70 y/o photochemist would be of much help in terms of good gigs in town.
