I throw the circumcision debate in the same bucket as gay marriage and abortion. It should be a choice and those who choose to do it should not be pilloried.

When my born, I told the doctors that I wanted my son circumcised but was very quickly told I was being barbaric. No doctor where my son was born would do it. My wife also said it was a bad idea.

He is now 7 years old and unfortunately for him, has had had a number of infections. Our GP has advised these probably would not have happened had he been circumcised.

I'm not saying it right for everyone, but it turns out we now have to go through the process of having a 7 year old boy circumcised which will cause him much more trauma than had it been done at birth.

    • Sorry to hear. What infections specifically? Just from dirt or bacteria?mg33
    • No it should not be an option at birth. It should only be done for medical necessity and even then it's usually overkill.Pupsipu
    • Doctors probably not used to deling with infections because everyone used to be cutPupsipu
    • Had 3 urinary tract infections...1 which meant hospitalisation. Not from lack of hygiene BTW.BusterBoy
