People have a need to believe in something (including that there's nothing to believe in) and some people just choose to follow the wrong ideas.
When you think about it, this is probably one of the most harmless things that could be followed. This isn't Jonestown, where people are being asked to off themselves. They're just waiting, proselytizing, until the day comes and goes and they come up with some excuse why it didn't happen until the next time it's "supposed" to happen.- Not all people NEED to believe in something!monospaced
