The forces that be are in a constant battle to keep rap and all art forms unpolitical. It tends towards politics, that's what at it's core, it can only be subjugated for so long. They'll always be an inexorable return to keep it real, you can only go so far from the light before you can't see. I want fucking angry scary disaffected people floating angry rhymes about truth and oppression and hopelessness and hope in novel and arresting ways, underlain by fat block-shaking beats and sounds to scare the neighbors. Turn it the fuck up, shut up and listen - these people sound like they would kill you if you don't fucking open your eyes.
But then I never really recovered from sitting inside a home made disco speaker and blasting several hundred watts of public enemy into teenage brain, and fucking rightly so.
