    For the above example, I'd get:

    Lights:
    - 1 strobe with silver umbrella for front/reflection in glasses.
    - 2 strobes, 1 on each side for the side lighting. Those don't look diffused. They may have grid spots tho.
    - Background looks shopped but you could replicate with a strobe located directly behind the model pointed at the red paper. Grid spot it until it gives you the diffusion you want.

    Camera/Lens:
    - Canon, Nikon, whatever. Just make sure it's high quality SLR with a sync port for the strobes.
    - You'll want a flat lens, so no wide angle (as the example above). Go mid range, say 50mm, and larger.
    - Light meter. I love Sekonic meters.

    Or just get a pro photo friend to help. Using strobes is rough if you've never done it.
