Pulling focus for me on a 5d has been MUCH easier with old, metal slow-turn manual focus lenses from 20 years ago... the Nikon 28mm F2.8 AI + adapter, the Pentax Takumar 50mm 1.4 with adapter,etc...
These old lenses turn more predictably and slowly, often with more turn/per/distance and I can use gaffer tape marks for start and end of a focus pull just like i used to do in film school, whereas the Canon EF lenses don't work like that....
