chick: tits. if no tits: ass. it's not the 90ies anymore, pretty face alone won't get you far.
dude: typography skills & common sense. any advanced tricks with design programs you can learn fairly quickly, but it is absolutely useless if you can't think. if you have only execution but no ideas: fail. only ideas, no execution: we'll talk and see if it's a fail. and if you choose a free font for your portfolio, I will always wonder, did you choose it because you liked it or cause it was a freebie. play safe, use professional fonts.
