    I did this, but there are concerns, because the client will lose much of the information once they are asked to register and sync the device after you give it to them. So as far as I know, purchasing apps, songs, etc may not be a good idea. Also, to create custom icons you'll need to jailbreak it, or use an app like springboard, summerboard or winterboard (one of those seasons). I really don't know anything about iPad/iPhone dev, so took a more simplistic approach (also realizing that my work may be erased).
    I created a custom lock screen, and wallpaper, as well as moving unnecessary apps/icons to a separate screen so that upon initial view, they could see exactly what I wanted them to see; settings, and othericons were off the home screen. I loaded the photo section with a couple of custom galleries (in my case, we created a digital brochure, which was a companion piece to a printed book), and added some videos. Looked slick, and worked fairly well.

    I would also love to hear if anyone customized iPads, and esp. the process of customizing ...say 50 of them.
