Some people in the US might not understand what a grip the main telecommunications companies in Canada have on us.

First you only have two main players Rogers and Bell. Here are your basic plans

    http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsS…
    https://www.rogers.com/web/link/…

Notice how the pricing and even the names are almost identical, pretty much the definition of an Oligopoly.

As everyone in Canada knows that the prices you see on the website are no where near what you pay when it comes to Bell or Rogers. There are service fees, rental charges, taxes, hookup fees it goes on and on......and on.

You can pay over $100 without blinking and you still don’t get new release and you still have to deal with commercials in one way or another.

    $100 / month

Netflix is $8 a month. Yes the selection is not chalked full of Blockbusters, yes you have to depend on your ISP to not jerk you around, (usually Rogers or Bell anyway). But they charge you $8/month (no service fees, or rental fees). Also for me the selection is great for what I want. I am not a big fan of Jersey Shores and American Idol and as long as I can get the news on and Hockey on CBC through an antenna I am happy.

But now in Canada it is possible for you to purchase a netflix account. Buy a device like apple tv for nearly the price of a one month subscription, which you can rent movies for$.99

$10/month for apple TV (to own)
    $8/month netflix

you can still rent 12 movies a month and still be under the basic cable package.

For some people it’s not a big deal you can download any movie you want and lets face it free is free.

But this type of setup allows people like my parents to have a reasonable content for a reasonable price that is easy to access.

    Thanks for reading my Rant.
