@ utopian, I'd say that is almost always the case. That said, it depends on the quality of the book, and the client's commitment to design standards. I can think of a few strong brands off the top of my head who are legendary when it comes to enforcing their standards—not just with new design firms, but internally as well— from what font to set letters in, to the color palette for charts and graphs.
