  "whyyy...
  WHY do they have to make the border that thick?"

  After using an iPad for a few months, I have come to appreciate the thick border around the screen. At first glance it made little sense and appeared pointless and bulky, but I quickly came to appreciate having a place to hold without actually touching or covering part of the screen. It's actually great from a usability point-of-view.
