I have a lot of thoughts on it actually as my wife is from Oahu and we've studied the idea of moving back eventually. The local culture can be challenging to break into for work. The chinatown area has been up and coming for the past couple years. Lots of small galleries with mediocre art, coffeeshops, bars, etc... but generally a good creative scene. Most jobs would center on either the local tech companies or small shops/restaurants. It would be good to snag the Hotel work, but they still seem to outsource back to LA or someplace on the mainland a lot. I still there there is potential to start something that can bridge Japan/Asia with America, whether it be Fine Art or Design. They have a decent size film festival that happens in a couple weeks that the wife is going back for. I'll be interested to see what types of local "creatives" she meets through that.

I actually had an interesting conversation with Todd at HunterGatherer about it and the goods and bads of trying it.

    • Good to know. Any other info/insight you have would be appreciated. ;)duckseason
