^ just go wherever the cruise people say is good and safe. You can have a lot of fun and relaxation without seeking out the 'authentic experience'. I never had anything bad happen to me in ocho, but my first day there I definitely got the vibe that it'd be pretty easy to get yourself mugged/beat up.
Case in point, first day at the resort (which had machine-gun armed guards btw), walking down the beach by myself, I stray a bit too close to the edge of the resort (still inside) and get surrounded by 6 guys who are really pushy/shovey about "renting me a jetski" "just follow us behind this building outside the resort".
Maybe they just need to work on their sales technique, but I definitely got the sense that I'd be walking back with a bloody head and no money.Took a bus trip into North Kingston. The smell alone should keep you away. very sketchy there.
- BTW, I think there's only 1 big beach there, a lot of shoreline seemed to be riprap/landfill.monNom
- yeah but everyone in and around resorts know you're there to spend money... hence the pushinesspartdeux
- fair. there was a lot of genuine salemanship going on too, but that one experience set my spider sense off. FWIWmonNom
