Thanks. Good to hear that I don't need a job right away. I could use those 4 months to find a job. I'll have to learn Dutch quickly though, and should even start while I'm still in the US. It will help tremendously of course.

The weather I don't think I'll mind. I've lived in the desert my entire life and am sick of being repeatedly baked day after day.

Why do you say housing is difficult? Is there that much demand? The apartments overlooking the canals, are those out of reach and only accessible to the rich and connected?

And yes I do like to bike. I ride competitively. Which actually might make Amsterdam NOT the ideal choice, as it is flat and more suited for utilitarian cycling (I like to train on mountains, which is why I'm still considering parts of Italy). I could also ride year-round in Italy. Hmmmm... first-world dilemmas eh.

    • Don't worry about speaking dutch. I live in Amsterdam and I'm dutch, but my gf has been living here for 5 years now and still doesn't speak it, and she still lands good jobs.Jordy
    • still doesn't speak dutch, but still lands really good jobs in the fashion design industry.Jordy
    • Amsterdam is so international you don't need to speak Dutch to get around but it's much appreciated when you do.Jordy
