Barcelona has so many cool different areas you'll want to visit, I'd just say make sure you don't book some hotel miles out of Barcelona. You'll be able to travel around easy enough to everywhere you want to get to. I wouldn't be too bothered about getting a hotel near the ramblas, it can be noisy and a tourist rip-off. Good for a visit and a walk up at night but keep walking.
