  Nosaj Thing and Modeselektor are great, but I don't really consider them ambient.

  It's always worth listening to Brian Eno, who originally coined the phrase ambient. It's really supposed to be about music that completely blends in to the background. You can add in a lot of the bands from that era, like Tangerine Dream, Steve Roach, Vangelis...
