"That was my brother-in-law's diploma. He's an oncologist."

The degree was dated in 2008. To practice oncology as a speciality you'd have to do an internship for three years, and at least a two year residency, and probably a one year fellowship at minimum.

So what you meant to say was:

"My imaginary brother-in-law will be an oncologist in 2014, but not in the states of California, Kansas and a couple of others because he went to a crappy Caribbean medical college that no one takes seriously. I am currently an imaginary lawyer. But I really do have Ikea furniture and have cool This Is The Solar System place mats for when I eat my Fruitloops. I am currently living at home because I tried to get a degree in performance art from the local arts college, but have to sit out a semester on academic leave. This whole "hedge" character is my attempt to get back into my academic program - it's a giant performance art piece based around the premise 'What if the character "Clay" from Bret Easton Ellis' novel "Less Than Zero" grew up to be a bored and recently laid off Art Director who paid his rent by going back to his late 80's profession of low level coke dealing and in his downtime trolled an internet forum for creative professionals pretending to be a hedge fund manager." The project is going well and I've sent updates to coordinating professor of the program, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet."
