    we have worked under the 'orphaned work' guideline that if the creator or owner is difficult to find or impossible to contact, it is in the free domain and can be used until the owner presents himself at which point the work must be removed or the owner gives permission to carry on. there has to be a legitimate show that there was no person to track down and that research was done- you cant just rip a photo out of rolling stone and say that there's no name on it, but that does not sound like what you are doing.

    before 1989 official copyright lasted 70 years past the creators death.
