I was never a huge fan until I skipped a day of high school, smoked my first joint and listened to the white album on vinyl over and over for 6 hours straight. That was over 20 years ago and although I wouldn't consider myself a fan I do appreciate them.
On a side note a friend just gave the their entire catalogue (stereo and momo) and if you turn off all the popular poppy songs (like Yellow Submarine, Back in the USSR, etc etc) they are some great gems that I have never heard before.
