turns out i'd encountered a similar problem before and asked a similar question here on qbn.
no solution was found.
other than find/replace all the linebreaks to an unused specialty character in source and then replacing back to linebreaks in AI or ID.
it sounds as though linebreaks are not characters or formatting that copy over.... .doc .pages .rtf it don't matter.
- royal pain in the ass, so please let me know if anyone has more infoinkpink
