Don't use the gum - it just keeps you addicted to something, replacing one for another. You're more likely to want a cigarette if you keep nicotine in your system with the gum. And it's expensive.

Read the Allen Carr book quickly. It's patronising beyond belief but you feel that you have to stop in order to justify having read it all. It works.

Don't tell people, or yourself, that you're quitting. Just stop and say that you don't smoke anymore. After a few days you'll start to believe yourself. Keep going to bars.

    • i couldn't have said it better.mydo
    • gum is free in the UK (good health service and all that) and yep as I said above only use it in first few months - takes edge offckentish
    • reading is free.mydo
    • I quit with the gum. Not sure if maybe it was just a placebo that bolstered my resolve. But it helped either way.
