IE6 is still around because governments and business cried when MS tried to do a mandatory updgrade as part of a windows update.. They then stopped working on it all together and the gap was too huge between 6 + 7 as a result of Vista taking so long to come out. Vista being SHIT then further degraded the situation unfortunately.
ie. lazy tech guys would of had to stop playing with rubber dart guns and actually do some work , so they made it seem like a world of warcraft ending event to their supervisors (who obviously know nothing). These supervisors then sent nasty e-mails to MS who didn't want to lose their customers and the rest is history...
