I used to have an aunt that lived in Cape Canaveral....we used to go up for launches all the time. When you see a night launch from that close....the initial flash like seen in the above photo is like an atomic bomb. A single unholy flash that lights up the sky like no lighting every could...it becomes brighter than day...for half a second....then the ground rumbles under your feet and you feel the heat .
It is AMAZING. I have been hooked ever since and always try to watch. I can clearly remember seeing the Challenger blow up live.
I can see the launch from where I live now...but only on a clear day
