Strictly speaking, not a 'classic' album. But it's my favorite album of all time hands down and it's a bit o' genius.
"Weird Nightmare: Meditations on Migus" is reinterpretations of Charles Mingus' music by a number of musicians. They utilize instruments built by Harry Partch (an American composer who rejected 12 tone diatonic systems and created his own micro tonal systems). Absolutely stunning and epic. Also features cameos by Elvis Costello, Chuck D, Henry Rollins, Dr. John, and more.

    • THAT was an amazing album I once had... miss it...vaxorcist
