In addition to previous comments on weather, I too have realized recently how very nice seasons are for the mind.
After about a year, you stop realizing there are no seasons in the city of SF, and once you leave, it takes a full cycle of seasons to fully realize what you were missing before.
And to add to what arthur said, I was surprised when I first landed in SF how incredibly filthy of a city it is. Of course, it didn't help that I took my first steps onto the streets of SF at the MUNI station on Mission, where a crackhead managed to blow crack smoke into my face right after I watched two bums fighting over a half-smoked cigarette someone had flicked out. Was not the best first impression for sure.
