Ugh.... about 7-8 years ago I was in a similar situation. I quit my job on the promise of a job in Korea, after 2 months of waiting my visa was rejected leaving me unemployed for 8 months with almost no savings. I finally took a crap job in LA, lived in a single room, slept on the floor, and had everything I owned in 2 suitcases.
Don't get too down, don't get too stressed and worried. You have skills, and work, and you'll get back on your feet soon. In the end you're alive. As long as you can eat and have some shelter, you'll get back.
Think about how to get back up... even if it means taking a job at Borders books or something.
I know it sucks that you lost so much, but more money will be printed, and you'll make it back. Not to mention I actually feel a lot better I went through my ordeal. I have friends who have never struggled... and I think there life is a bit boring.
