Go with what Nairn said (wow Nairn, we actually agree on something)
I just built:
Core i7 Quad Core
6GB DDR 3
Nvidia GTX 260
Asus P6TI can give you more details if you like, but since you are looking to buy and not build, just make sure you go with a nice quad core i7 processor, at least 6GB of RAM (it's cheap these days!) and a top shelf motherboard...like and Asus, DFI, Gigabyte...etc. The video card is also obviously imperative so go with a GTX 260 or something higher (currently this will play any game with ease )
Also about the 64-bit OS, you need to go 64-bit if you want to use over 4GB of RAM. So go with Vista 64 for now....and yes this will run almost all games except maybe really old stuff ( I am a pretty big gamer). I have been running Vista 64 for some time and it works well if you have a fast machine.
