Well.. depends on your outlook. Some people would rather not sacrifice their career for the pursuit of a partner - that is what makes them happy. Others need someone else there for support and companionship. The trick, like you said, is balancing these things. If the girls you meet are really into you they'll understand that a career in graphic design is not your typical 9-5 (rarely) and that you need to balance your lifestyle in ways that aren't creative either (ie: gym, sleep, hobbies).
