That was a nice marketing "trick" by Canon with the 5D and that HD video shoot with the photographer. I think it fooled practically everyone to actually believe a $3000 camera could shoot HD video as good as they so effectively PR'd here last year http://gizmodo.com/5050819/canon…
The 5D uses a nice big CCD chip, but the real secret is the $50,000+ worth of Canon lenses that were used on the shoot. The Canon L series, you can tell my the red line around the lens.
So really there would not be a HD camera on the market that could be comparable and nobody with a brain would buy a 5D and expect to shoot HD and get anywhere close to that video going around.
So you might look at the H30, it's HD and people seem to like it and it's only around $600 bucks and tiny.
